I am taking a scheduled vacation day from my day job today.
I’m sitting at Rio Rita having enjoyed biking the approx 12 minute bike ride in 79 degree weather and I’m drinking an iced coffee with an espresso shot and Knob Creek.
The songs we’re writing for this next record are my favorite Again For The Win songs yet. I’m eager to share them, as I know the rest of the band is.
Lyrically we’re nearing completion, with the final piece of the puzzle coming in from a song Bobby birthed recently called Progeny.
Musically we’re still trying a few different ideas, but we’ve set a hard date for going into Shine Studios with Justin Douglas and laying down pre-production demos before we begin the real sessions for the record in the fall. Seems a long time away, but it’s going to have been fermenting and growing stems for the perfect amount of time.
Summer is arriving in Austin.

We’ve had some fantastic writing rehearsals the past couple months.
Things are really starting to take shape.
We can play through 7 or so songs with pretty settled structures, lyrics, and moments. The others are getting close to being that complete.
We’ve set a date in the summer to go into Shine and cut some pre-production demos, which is something we’ve never done with our projects before.
Looking forward to sharing.

It makes writing songs together incredibly fun and easy.
I’ve been writing music with Bobby since late 2005.
Wayne, Travis, and Greg have been since around the same time - even they don’t know anymore.
We’ve completely finished writing 5 songs for the next full length and the rest of them are pretty far along as well.
We’re running on full with regards to inspiration and creativity.
